- My classroom and I would
like to say "Thank You" to you and the Sponsors of Newspapers in Education for the opportunity to use the Dodge City Daily Globe on a daily basis to enhance the use of reading by students. We want you to know
how much we appreciate and use the newspapers in our classroom at Sunnyside Elementary School.
The newspapers have been very helpful and motivational to our students on a daily basis. We use the papers in
many ways to heighten awareness of many things, such as using them to locate and talk about current events, and in helping the kids read and find the main ideas of stories. We use the newspaper to find sight
words and spelling words that are used every day in the written material, and this reinforces the fact that they need to know these words to not only be able to read a reading series, but also a book or newspaper
for information and entertainment, and later, information in a job setting. We have used the paper to find and discuss root words, prefixes and suffixes, compounds, and contractions.
The Dodge City Daily
Globe has been a wonderful, and very useful resource in our classroom. We have truly utilized the Globe as a learning tool, and appreciate the sponsors who, through their dedication to education and generous
donations, have allowed us to be able to have this valuable medium for supplemental reading purposes in our school. Thank You again.
