Spa Buyer's Guide

Ozonator Information Sheet

Basic Information:

  • No ozonator is 100% - you still need chlorine or bromine in the water
  • There are 2 types of ozonators:
    • o UV (ultra violet) Ozonators

§ They are only 1/10 to 1/1,000 of a percent effective

§ They usually have to be replaced every 2-3 years

      o CD (corona discharge) Ozonators

        § They are 1 – 2% effective

Hot Spring spas come with CD ozonators.  While they do provide some sanitization, no spa can run solely on an ozonator.  Sanitization only occurs while the water is in contact with the ozonator leaving bacteria that is not killed out in the water.  You are risking your health and anyone elses that enters the spa if you do not keep additional sanitizer in the water.
